How to level up your card business on eBay, CollX and beyond:
Ebay power-seller Beau Thompson’s instant CollX success
“It’s even faster listing to CollX than it is exporting to eBay! It’s one click.”
Card Dealer Pro power user Beau Thompson, who became famous for starting the One Million Cubs Project, is now known as much for his online card business as anything else. Since Beau reached his goal of collecting 1 million Cubs cards this year — after which Topps honored him with his very own 1/1 superfractor and 1st pitch at a game at Wrigley — he’s now headed in the direction of a new goal: listing 1 million cards for sale!
A longtime eBay seller, Beau maxed out his active listings there, which led him to look for another sales channel. Enter CollX! Since Beau is a CDP Ninja, he he realized that with one click he could list his additional inventory to the CollX marketplace, that would be a logical place to expand his online card business. He did over 40+ deals on CollX within the first few days listing cards, and his CollX shop now has several thousand cards.
Beau’s Tips for Scaling Your Online Store
How to level up your card business on eBay, CollX and beyond:
Invest in a good scanner. There are lots of cheap models, but a scanner like the Ricoh fi-8170 images the cards well, doesn’t damage them, and can handle top loaders and penny sleeves. Beau doesn’t do a lot of graded cards, but for slabs and thick memorabilia cards, look at a flatbed like the Epson v600.
Pre-sort your cards by set and price, but don’t resort after. Set the location and SKU on Card Dealer Pro to make retrieval and fulfillment easy.
Create a Custom Title template. Beau actually suggested this feature 2 years ago, and we built it! Beau uses teams, sports in his titles and says they boost views. Other CDP card data like Rookie, Auto, Attributes, Subset/Parallel can also help with eBay search discovery.
Use Free Shipping. Bake the cost of Standard Envelope (or whatever shipping method you configure) into the cost of the card. Free shipping listings are boosted, and you’ll sell more.
$1-$5 Card Sell! If you’re still wondering, after hearing Beau’s story, if listing inexpensive cards is worth the effort, if they really sell on eBay, you better believe they do!
